Fagatogo Market still closed

As of Wednesday morning the Fagatogo market remains closed after the Environmental health Division closed it Monday because the bathrooms were not flushing due to low water pressure.

The Deputy Director of Agriculture Siauini Taala said ASPA started working on the water issue on Monday. He is hopeful that the work will be completed today and the market will pass an inspection by DOH so that the market can be opened right away.

When we checked in with the Environmental Health Division we were told that the market remains closed and they were unsure as to when it will likely reopen.

Administrator of the Environmental Health Division Aileen Solaita had said Monday that the marketplace had very low water pressure and the bathrooms were not flushing. She said the problem started last week but they were only notified about it Monday.

The indefinite closure upset vendors who depend on the sale of produce, handicrafts and other items at the market for their living. Mrs Tuulau Mary Otemai appealed to government leaders and agencies looking after the market to give attention to the facility.
