ASTCA’s Drone & Fireworks Show a crowd pleaser

Thousands gathered at Veterans Stadium last night for the culminating Flag Day party. The crowd was entertained by singing performances while children played on bounce houses. Food vendors did a brisk business as the stadium filled to capacity.

At 7:30pm, the stadium lights were switched off as thunderous music began to play. The much anticipated drone light and fireworks show began with a bang. A swarm of 200 drones equipped with colorful lights filled the air.

The drones put on a special Flag Day-themed performance creating iconic cultural scenes such as a taupou wearing a tuiga, a fireknife dancer twirling knives, a moso’oi flower and the United States and American Samoa flags Fireworks and explosions intertwined with the drones drawing lots of oohs and ahhs from the transfixed audience.

The highlight of the 10-minute show came when the drones formed the shape of a fautasi rowing across the sky. From there, the name and village of each boat was written across the sky in lights along with the boat’s mascot. The crowd cheered as their favorite boats were featured. The show ended with a large ASTCA logo and an explosive 1-minute fireworks finale.
