With Wayde van Niekerk taking centre stage in the 400m final, here is all you need to know about South Africans in action on Day 6 of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

During the early hours of Thursday morning, Wayne Snyman finished 21st in the 35 kilometre race walk event with a time of 2:35:13 – a season best.

The rest of the South African exploits unfold in the evening session, starting with the men’s 200m semi-final set to get underway at 8:20pm. The trio of Shaun Maswanganyi, Luxolo Adams and Sinesipho Dambile will all have their sights set on making it to the 200m final after placing third in their respective heats.

Van Niekerk scraped into the 400m final with a “best losing time” of 44:65, placing third in heat 1 of the semi-finals. Discounting the South African after an underwhelming performance will only fire up the world and Olympic record holder who is known for producing his very best when the pressure mounts. Catch the sprinter in action at 9:35pm.
