SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch in Southern California scheduled for tonight

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch out of Vandenberg Space Force Base in Southern California is scheduled for tonight, the privately owned company announced.

The rocket is expected to carry 22 Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit, with a targeted launch time of 7:30 p.m. and backup opportunities until 11:30 p.m.

Officials said this is the 15th flight for the Falcon 9 first stage booster rocket, including eight other Starlink missions as well as several other missions for the U.S. Space Development Agency.

If the April 1 launch gets the green light, people across Southern California may be able to witness the rocket as it flies toward low-Earth Orbit.

Vandenberg Space Force Base is located in Santa Barbara County near Lompoc.
