It’s hard not to wonder who Martha is in real life after finishing Baby Reindeer. She’s such a compelling character in the show that fans are eager to know what happened to the person Martha was based on afterward. We’ll cover whether or not her identity has been revealed or not below.

Those hoping that Baby Reindeer creator Richard Gadd would expose the real-life Martha after the series premiered will be disappointed. Donny’s story is based on Gadd’s life, and he does not wish to reveal Martha’s identity. His approach is quite the opposite. He’d rather fans not seek out Martha at all.

There are fan theories about Martha’s real name. Although Gadd claims that he changed enough details of her life for Baby Reindeer that it’d be challenging to locate her, a small subset of the show’s audience has combed the internet in an attempt to find her.

We won’t cover any of these theories here out of respect for Gadd’s wishes. Regardless, without any word from him, there’s no way to confirm who Martha is in real life. If this story had happened in the US, the details would have been a few public records searches away. However, despite her receiving multiple prison sentences, a person’s criminal records aren’t public knowledge in the UK.

Of course, there’s the argument that allowing Martha anonymity is potentially harmful to the public, especially since she has re-offended in the past. In the US, she would potentially be added to the public sex offender registry for her behavior (depending on the location), which might warn potential victims of her intentions. In the UK, there is no public sex offender registry, so Donny had no way to see that Martha was a serial stalker.

In the end, it comes down to Gadd to decide whether or not to reveal Martha’s identity. Unless he does, fans should respect that decision.
